How it Works

92.2.2.5 Sample Configurations

In order to configure Etere Redundancy Switch within an Etere master/clone automation system for switching via either GPI Mode-A or GPI Mode-B, you need to follow the next steps:
1.Verify the Jumper n.2 (JP2) is closed.
2.Connect the Backup PC's GPI card to the Etere Redundancy Switch (EA1791) using a RJ45 cable with the following pin assignment schemes:
• GPI PCL 725                                            Using GPI board PCL - 725:
DB37 M PCL - 725 -
NO.* - 01
COM.* - 02
Remote Control RJ45 (EA1791) - GPI Mode-A :
07
08
Remote Control RJ45  (EA1791) - GPI Mode-B :

01
02
NO= normally open
COM = common pin
NB: Pins 01 & 02 activate the GPI 0 of the PCL-725 card
• Advantech GPI 1750                              Using a GPI board Advantech 1750:
GPI 1750 -
IGND.* - 09
IDO.0* - 11
Remote Control RJ45 (EA1791) - GPI Mode-A :
07
08
Remote Control RJ45  (EA1791) - GPI Mode-B :

01
02
IGND = ground
IDO.0 = normally open
(*) Pins 09 & 11 activate the GPI 0 of GPI 1750 card
• Advantech GPI 1760                              Using a GPI board Advantech 1760:
GPI 1760 -
RO_N.O.* - 35
IDO.0* - 37
Remote Control RJ45 (EA1791) - GPI Mode-A :
07
08
Remote Control RJ45  (EA1791) - GPI Mode-B :

01
02
R0_NO = ground for normally open
IDO.0= normally open
(*) Pins 35 & 37 activate the GPI 0 of GPI 1760 card
• Advantech GPI 1736UP                            Using GPI board Advantech 1736UP:
GPI 1736UP -
IDO.0* - 22
E.GND.1* - 24
Remote Control RJ45 (EA1791) - GPI Mode-A :
01
02
Remote Control RJ45  (EA1791) - GPI Mode-B :

07
08
IDO.0 = normally open
E.GND.1 = ground
• Advantech GPI USB 4761                      Using GPI board Advantech USB 4761:
GPI USB 4761 -
NO* - NO0
COM* - COM0
Remote Control RJ45 (EA1791) - GPI Mode-A :
07
08
Remote Control RJ45  (EA1791) - GPI Mode-B :

02
01
NO<0-7> = Normally open pin of relay output
COM<0-7>= Common pin of relay output
3.If you encounter some problems while configuring pinout, follow the guidelines described below:
•If the settings listed above do not allow switching EA1791 in remote mode B, check that pins 01 & 02 of remote connector (RJ45) are used. Try to invert the GPI board pins as well, considering that some cards work in base to polarity.
•Usually the GPI used for switching between MASTER/CLONE is the number "0". In particular cases, another GPI could be used for that purpose. In this case, refer to the pin out of the GPI card in use.
4.Activate in Etere Automation > Settings > Parameters > Main/Backup the option 'Clone Mode', and set to '0' the option 'GPI to activate when starts (-1 no GPI)'. The option 'impulsive' must be deselected.
