59.2.4 Aspect Ratio Conversion

Etere supports managing Aspect Ratio Conversion (ARC) for all assets managed within the system; this feature makes Etere capable of providing information about the aspect ratio of its video files, thus enabling television broadcasters to transmit content in 4:3 and 16:9 formats optimally as well as to dynamically control up/down conversions.

The highly integrated HD/SD Aspect Ratio Conversion management provided by Etere consists of the ability to interface embedded aspect ratio converters and standalone aspect ratio converters (remotely triggered via GPI signals).

Etere provides a comprehensive approach that uses aspect ratio signalling information embedded within contents. Content metadata contains all video aspect ratio information, and it's used to trigger aspect ratio conversion devices. It can also be defined for specific devices, for example, one for browsing captures and the other for video playout.

Etere allows integrating into the system an essential component of the broadcasting chain: the aspect ratio conversion, by allowing to

➢Flexibility: custom conversion profiles for "SD to HD" and "HD to SD" conversions.

➢Suitability: the right aspect ratio is always warranted for preview and delivery.

➢Integration: any aspect ratio converter with GPI-signaling can be used to the video server, either internal or external.

➢Reliability: all operations are based on accurate and appropriate SQL procedures.
