The Breaks Management window, available from either the right-click explode menu and by pressing the F2 key, is a simple form that allows operators to easily manage the segments that will be exploded in the currently open broadcast schedule, this, without modifying the asset EDL since changes are applied only to the selected event. This function features a easy-to-use interface which is mainly divided in two areas:
• EDL View: The left part represents the EDL of the event, which can be managed (according to the actual broadcast needs) using the EDL functions described in the Media Library > EDL functions chapter and that includes:
- Sched. duration: View and modify the scheduled duration of the event in question.
- Add Insertion Point (F2): Use it to create a new segment by separating the last segment at a certain point.
• Exploded View: In the right area, under the 'visible segments tab', event segments can be viewed exactly as they will be exploded in the broadcast schedule, being possible to perform any of the functions mentioned before.
Moreover, under the 'media' tab, it will be possible to watch the low-resolution version of the event through a Proxy-preview form. The metadevice selected for the preview will be remembered by the system for the current user and workstation.
Once segments have been managed (e.g.: created, modified, deleted, etc), performed changes can be applied by pressing either the [Ok] button or the [Apply and publish] button which besides applying changes also publish the current open schedule.
Recommendations
Each time the duration of an exploded part changes, it is highly suggested to re-launch the Breaks Management function to update the durations of the next segment(s) according to the performed changes:
• If the changed duration goes over the scheduled duration: The exceeding time of the changed segment will be subtracted from the following exploded segments of the event in question, paying attention to don't make segments last less than one minute (i.e.:00:00:59:24) since too-small durations are ignored by Etere Automation.
• If the changed duration goes below the scheduled duration: The remaining time of the changed segment will be added to the following exploded segments of the event in question.
Skipped segments
Please note that in case a program segment is skipped, by making click on the next non-skipped program segment it will be possible to include on it the "non transmitted part" of the skipped segment. This functioning is useful, for example, in the following case:
1. The operator skips a program segment to immediately transmit a commercial cluster.
2. The operator selects the next segment of the same program, re-explodes the segment (press F2) and publish the playlist.
3. The system will avoid missing the previously skipped segment by automatically scheduling it within the next program segment to be transmitted.
