• Affiliate •
Local station that subscribes to the services and programs of a bigger network
• Aliasing •
Visual defects or distortions that occur in a television picture, often due to interference between overlapping frequencies. In analog video, aliasing typically arises from interferences between luminance and chrominance signals, or chrominance and field scanning frequencies
• ANC •
Abbreviation for ancillary data, also known as SMPTE 291M. It refers to non-video information (such as audio, metadata, or other contents) embedded within the Serial Digital Interface (SDI). There are two types of ANC based on the position within the signal of the data packets:
▪ VANC (Vertical Ancillary Data), in the vertical blanking interval, commonly used for closed captions
▪ HANC (Horizontal Ancillary Data), in the horizontal blanking region, often used for embedded audio
• Anti-Aliasing •
Process of reducing or eliminating aliasing artifacts using filtering and other techniques. Most, but not all, logo and character generators include built-in anti-aliasing features
• Archive •
Storage system used to manage and preserve audio and video files, typically composed of disk arrays and/or tape libraries. In Etere, archives are managed through custom tailored-workflows that allow media files to be uploaded or retrieved when needed (e.g. before scheduled transmission), using tools such as Etere Data Mover/Etere Media Manager Service or EtereWeb Services
• Aspect Ratio •
Ratio between the width and height of a television picture. Etere supports both the standard television display (4:3) and the widescreen display (16:9)
• As-Run •
Report detailing the time, duration, and state of each aired content. Etere generates robust As-Run that offer accurate information to, for example, the commercial planning system, thus providing a real-time and reliable feedback from playout
• Asset •
Logical entity representing a media element within a broadcasting system. In Etere, each asset is uniquely associated to an asset form that contains its relevant data and can be linked to more than one media file. See Asset Form below
• Asset Form •
Structured framework where all the data regarding an asset are detailed. Etere provides a Media Library to manage all asset forms which hold relevant information, including metadata, media files, rights, workflows, operation logs, and much more
• Automation •
Software system that controls and executes broadcast operations during on-air transmission. Etere Automation allows stations to automatically broadcast their daily schedules without requiring human operators, while ensuring high reliability
