70.3.3.3 Loading Tapes

Loading and unloading tapes in Etere HSM Headquarters is an easy task, in order to perform these actions just follow the next procedures:

1.Go to the Servers section and make right-click on the library on which the tape will be loaded, select the "Inject into library" option:

2.A small windows will appear displaying all available ports, select the port on which the tape will be inserted and click on Next:

NB: In case the i/e port is retractable (i.s. supports automatic injected), it will be automatically extended.

3.It will be indicated to inject the tape into the selected port and press Next to continue:

4.Click on the Finish button. Now that the tape is loaded into the library, it can be viewed (and managed) by going to the Media section:

NB: From Etere released version 31.2 or later, when LTO tape is loaded into Tape Library the whole string of tape barcodes (8 digits) would be written into database, including the last 2 digits which contains the supported LTO version, e.g. L7 is LTO 7, L8 is LTO 8.  If the LTO version is not specified, a default type set in Tape Library configuration would be applied.

NB: Remember that in order to inject tapes into the library, besides Etere HSM -Headquarters, also the Etere HSM - Robotics module must be running.

Add tapes for Archive operation
During HSM Archive, if the archive operation require more tapes to be inserted into the Tape Library, an indicative message “Add a tape into Mediapool” would be displayed in HSM Headquarters’s Work Queue to alert the operator.  
Monitor

When inserting new tapes to Tape Library, adhere to the following rules:
•The inserted tape must be put “Online” and “Usable”.
•The amount of available space in the tape must be sufficient to cater for the files to be archived.  The HSM Headquarters would calculate the storage space required to be archived on tape, if the available space in the mounted tape is insufficient for the files to be archived, the indicative message “Add a tape into Mediapool” would remain persistent and the Archive operation would be interrupted.
