Installation Guide

1.3.2 Etere Web Setup

Etere Web Setup

1. The Etere Web Application (Etere Web Setup) installation is embedded into the Etere Update main menu, as shown below. It runs outside the Etere environment, requires only lib_utils component and optionally wsetup.ini for Data Connection properties default.
NB: If both "Etere Web Setup" and "Web API Setup" use port 80 (default port) for communication with the SQL Server, both setups cannot be run concurrently; otherwise, one of the setups will fail.
NB: Before Etere Web setup, Etere application modules must be installed and configured in the workstation, and the database must be connected.

2. Launch the Etere Installer; click the button above to start the application initialization process and open the Etere Web setup wizard. The setup must be run from the server you want to install or previously installed. You would need Administrator privileges to proceed with the design.
Before you begin, Etere Web Installer
checks the setup site's SQL database settings against the current Etere configuration SQL database. If the SQL databases differ, a warning message prompts the user to update the database name in the "Web. config" file in the setup site.

On the Management page, you can check the current version of Etere Web installed in the workstation and all the other versions installed with the different related bindings.

Here, it's possible to view the versions that have been downloaded but not installed yet, identified with the label <to be installed>.

By simply clicking on the "Check for updates" button, it's possible to see all the latest Etere Web releases and check if they have been installed, downloaded, or available to be downloaded.

Selecting a version available for download would enable the button Download and Install, which will create a folder named "EtereInstall" (if not already present) in the local user's downloads folder, where the selected Etere Web package will be saved.

The installation will start once the download is done.

NB: The released version is present in 2 listings, 1 for official release and 1 for customer-specific release. Both releases are stored in the same directory as the Etere Windows application releases.

3. If a version has already been downloaded, clicking the Next button on the Management page is enough to start the installation.

4. The Settings tab contains the information about the installation package.

Web site name: It displays the network site name where the Etere Web Setup application is available. Etere Web Setup can manage the DNS, which retrieves the IP address (the hostname is not necessarily needed) to fulfil the settings. DNS Server can be another machine in the network; the user must be granted specific Windows permission to manage DNS.

Inherit binding from: This setting enables you to inherit impersonation, hostname, and binding port from the last installed site to the new site.

The settings in the Data Connection section are auto-retrieved by the Etere application.

Moreover, the data provider would be aligned to the same network provider name (e.g., MSOLEDBSQL) configured in Etere desktop applications.

The SQL Databases and SQL server names are automatically retrieved from Etere's connection settings.

Authentication Mode: Not manageable; only SQL Authentication is allowed.

Enter the username and password of an SQL account with high privileges (e.g., sa) in the Authentication section.

Click Next to start the installation.

5. In the "Installation" tab, the user can check the outcome of the installation, open the file folder, or access the Etere website with the default browser.

- Run: indicate if the installation step has been performed or is yet to be performed.
- Step: List the various steps to be performed in sequence by the installation program (see detailed information below).
- State: Click on the status under the "State" column to view the step's details.
The steps performed in this installation phase are:

Check Prerequisites
The required software must be installed:
-Microsoft .Net Framework 4.6 or later
-IIS 7.0 or later
-ASP .Net 4.5
-IIS Windows Features listed below must be enabled:
Windows_Features

• Create Web Site
- Creates physical path directory
in C:\inetpub\wwwroot, named as the Etere Web package the user is installing. Grants Read / Execute access to Everyone.
- Creates application pools
- Creates a new site in IIS pointing to the physical path created and creates the virtual directories according to the media folders available in Etere.

When creating the Web site between the primary domain and the trusted domain, it is recommended to use Microsoft's built-in "IIS_IUSR" account instead of the "Everyone" current network user account for setting access rules.

Extract Files
Extract files from the installation package to the physical path on the website.

Streaming Server Setup
Using this function, the user can set up the Etere Web Player Streaming Service (EtereWPlayer) if installed on the same server. Select the related feature in the Etere Desktop installation process to install the Streaming Server.

If Etere Web installation is launched and the Streaming server is not installed, the Etere Web installer will skip this step.

Database Setup
Updates specific Etere Web stored procedures and functions in the database.

Database Setup requires a Full-text catalogue to be in place. If the record does not exist, you can perform the System Maintenance task Full-text Search to create the log.

Web Site Setup
This process updates the Web—-config file in the physical path setting database connection strings.

Finalization
When the installation cannot proceed further, this process automatically rolls the site and directories back to the previous state.

6. Upon installation, select one of the options available from the installation menu:

Back to Management: Select this option to return to the Etere Web Setup Management menu, where you can configure the skin immediately or check for new updates by closing the Etere Web Setup wizard.

Customize site appearance: By selecting this option, it launches the Etere Web Customization wizard immediately, where you can customize the appearance of the Etere Web, e.g., changing the background colour, title characters colour, standard image for assets, etc.

Browse: This option launches the Etere Web User Login screen, where you can log in to the newly installed Etere Web and start using the features.

Etere Web Management

In the "Management" tab, all the various versions of the Etere Web installer are displayed under respective network sites. The "Management" tab toolbar allows users to manage the Etere Web applications.

PropertiesSelecting the site name and clicking the Properties button allows viewing the following setup information on the Web. Config file:

The website tab displays the site information (site name, hostname, and binding port).
Web config tab - displays the
current SQL database settings of the setup site.

If a DNS server is used in the domain, the Etere Web Setup is capable of managing the DNS server; the user can click on the specific version (under the Site Name) to be installed and select the hostname related to the local host or add a new hostname to the DNS server, and click to confirm the changes.

Delete - Using the delete function, the user can remove the selected website and delete its application pool and physical directory from the Management panel if other sites do not use it.

Before executing this function, the website must be stopped.

Start / Stop - These functions allow users to stop or start the website.
NB: If the error message "The object identifier does not represent a valid object" popup when attempting to amend the Stop/Start status, it indicates that the default website does not have HTTP binding.

Customize - This feature opens the dialogue box to allow customizing the website's appearance. Changes allowed for customization include the general aspects of the web appearance.

In the "Configuration" droplist, select a predefined template in the system, load the variables and values defined in the template, and start customizing the website appearance by changing the values. Once saved, the user can rename and save the new template so that it will appear in the drop list. However, users are not allowed to modify or delete any preset template.

In the dialogue box, select one of the following actions after making changes to the template:

• Delete: delete the selected changes
• Apply to the website:
✓It applies the selected configuration to the website if no changes have been made.
✓If changes are made to the selected configuration, it saves the changes to the database and applies the new configuration to the website.
• Save As save the amended template with a different name

Browse - This feature opens the website with the default browser, using its hostname or local hostname.

Etere Web Setup Log

During the Etere Web Setup, the log containing the detailed information of the setup process is saved into the local PC in the C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\Etere\Log folder. The log file name is Etere.Web.Installer*.log.

Use the toolbar icons <Open Log File> or <Open Log Folder> in the Etere  Web Setup menu to locate and view the log file.
