The Media Type Editor is a tool available only for storage resources. A 'standard' resource has a preset list of media types that it can manage and play. The collection of values (video standard, wrapping, video essence, etc.) that identify said media's properties is known as a Tuple. Specific 'standard' resources will have a set of tuples identifying the media type said resource can recognize.
The Media Type Editor allows you to customize a standard resource to fit your needs should the resource you are using recognize different media from that which a shared resource is set up to recognize.
The window is split into the following sections: the top right section displays the resource tree, which can be expanded to visualize all relevant tuples about the resource. These tuples can be expanded to be viewed by tuple property:
Custom resources.

Click the 'create custom resource' button in the toolbar to create a new custom resource. A window will appear, allowing you to specify the standard resource from which the customized resource should inherit its tuples for you to modify. Insert a description of the new resource. The 'user model' field is automatically generated and represents the total number of that particular resource in the Custom Resources list.
Once a new resource has been added, it can be customized by selecting a tuple property from the top right-hand list. Once selected, it can either be deleted ('delete' button in the toolbar) or edited: in the 'tuple combination' of properties at the bottom of the window (they appear once a tuple property is selected), the following properties can be amended:
•Video Standard (PAL, NTSC etc.)
•Wrapping (ASF, MXF, AVI etc.)
•Video Essence (DV25, DV50, MPEG1 etc.)
•Video Quality (12 MBIT, 25 MBIT, 30 MBIT etc.)
•Audio Essence (AIFF, MPEG1 Layer 1 etc.)
•Audio Quality (Stereo 16 Bit, Stereo 24 Bit etc.)
•File Essence (Plaintext etc.)
•File Quality (Unknown etc.)
The 'Insert new tuples' button allows you to create a new tuple for a specific media type (customized resource), and the 'Modify properties' button will enable you to modify an existing tuple. In both cases, inserting the required Media Type and Video Standard and pressing the buttons above brings up the list of tuples. The list can be navigated through the navigation arrows.
