Events Management

84.2.3.3 Exploding events

The explode function allows to divide an event into all its interruption point (created in Media Library) so you can insert commercial breaks between them if required. If the asset has more than one EDL you can select which EDL the explosion has to follow. It will be possible to explode the event in the following ways:

All break points (F8) - Explode all the segments according to the event's EDL interruptions (Insertion point, Garbage video, Video faults or Visible segment). Each time an event is exploded using this function, in case it has more than one configured EDL (e.g. with different segments and/or SOM or EOM values), the operator will be prompted to selected the EDL to be exploded.
Note: It's possible to explode the EDL#1 only if it has at least one interruption point.

Hypothetical segments (F2) - Open the "Breaks Management" form that allows to easily create and change the segments to explode. With the F2 function, you can modify the segment's expected duration, its SOM and EOM. The segment would be visible upon modification.
When segments duration is decreased (even though duration changes in single frame), a dialog box would popup to alert user indicating the current duration, modified duration and time difference between durations. You must enter keyword “ETERE” in the dialog box to confirm the changes in segment duration in order to proceed.
In addition, more stringent control are in place when changing segment’s duration in the schedule:
• When modifying duration for assets divided into parts, the modification is allowed only for the last part of the event, and duration decreased must not exceed 180 seconds defined in Global parameter.
• The control should exclude Live asset and non-Live assets that yet to be associated with material.

All the visible segments - Exclusively explode all the EDL visible segments.

Only selected visible segments - Explode only all the EDL visible segments selected by the operator using a simple segments selection form.

Into custom parts (ALT-R) - Open the "explode into custom parts" window, that allows to set the number of parts and the duration of each part which the event will be divided into.
The form is split in 3 sections:
- The first one shows the current number of parts and duration of the event.
- The second section allows to set the number of parts and the duration of each part (if the user leaves the duration field disabled, the program's whole duration will be automatically divided in parts of equal duration).
- The third one, shows the result of the operation, that is, the final number of parts and the final total duration of the event.
See chapter 84.2.3.5 Explode into custom parts for more detailed information.

Regenerate number of parts - Recreate the number of parts (from 1 to "n") of a exploded event. This function is useful to update the number of every exploded segment of an event according to their current position, for instance:

Event before             Event after
Pos. #1 segment 1 -> segment 1
Pos. #2 segment 4 -> segment 2
Pos. #3 segment 2 -> segment 3
Pos. #4 segment 3 -> segment 4
Pos. #5 segment 5 -> segment 5

Note: This function doesn't move segments but only updates their position number.
Once an event is exploded (independently of the function used to explode an event), all the exploded segments will be pointed out displaying under the icons column a blue icon (note that events 'grouped in cluster' are marked with a yellow icon).

Exploded events behaviour

Once an event has been exploded across two or more segments, take into account the following considerations in order to avoid errors or inconsistencies when modifying exploded segments (e.g. properties, duration etc.):

Changed Properties
Depending on whether the Etere Configuration | Executive Editor | Schedule Parameters | Station >> "The explode function..." is enabled, each time an event is exploded (either using the F8: all breakpoints or the F2: all hypothetical segments), the properties (i.e. titler, crawl, logo, etc) of the exploded segments will be modified according to the exploded event properties (i.e.: logos will be copied to all the exploded parts featuring the same duration, offset and page number; additionally, logos which are not present in the asset's Media Library will be removed); otherwise (if disabled), the properties of the exploded segments won't be modified.

Changed EDL
In case the EDL interruptions are modified after an explosion, it is required to re-launch the explode function (i.e.: all break points, hypothetical segments, visible segments or selected segments) to update changes into the schedule based on the exploded segment's EOM (displaying a warning in case the EOM is out the event's physical start and end).

Changed Duration, Time or Date
When modifying the actual duration, time or date of a head/middle/tail segment, the system will proceed as follows:

EVENT
exploded segment #1(head segment) - exploded segment #2(middle segment) - exploded segment #3(middle segment) - exploded segment #4(middle segment) - exploded segment #5(tail segment)

• It is possible to change the duration, time or date of a head segment, in this case, the change is updated across all the other segments.
• It is not possible to change the date or time of middle and tail segments.
• It is possible to change the duration of middle and tail segments (only if its doesn't exceed the total asset duration).

Changed Scheduled Duration, Time or Date
Moreover, in case the scheduled time, duration or date of an exploded segment is modified, the new value will be updated across all the other exploded segments.
