 • HANC • 
Abbreviation for horizontal ancillary data. See ANC data in [1.2.1. Glossary - A]

 • Heartbeat • 
Message sent periodically by a process, server or device to signal that it is still active. All Etere modules send automatic heartbeats to an SNMP console which monitors their status and alerts the operator in case of anomalies

 • Hierarchical Storage • 
Data organization approach that defines multiple, usually three, storage tiers:
 ▪ Online storage, for fast or immediate access to active data (e.g. video servers)
 ▪ Nearline storage, for slower access to less-frequently used data (e.g. tape libraries)
 ▪ Offline storage, for long-term data preservation (e.g. archival tapes, backup disks)

 • High-Definition Television • 
Digital television broadcasting system, commonly known as HDTV, that provides a higher resolution than the traditional Standard-Definition Television (SDTV)

 • High-Resolution • 
Term commonly used, along with hi-res, to refer to video formats that offer higher image detail and pixel count than their contemporary low-resolution counterparts. File extensions such as .mxf.mov, and .avi are commonly associated with hi-res files. Etere allows to ingest hi-res video from both analogue and digital sources
