The "Automatic defragmentation of tapes" is a function that definitively removes all logically deleted files from tapes. This operation starts from the tape with more 'logical deleted space'. The automatic defrag will process all tapes with a deleted space larger than the specific percentage specified by the user.
Automatic defragmentation of tapes
Etere HSM will schedule this operation based on the 'scheduling parameters'. Moreover, it is possible to request a re-catalogue (i.e., read a tape's contents and update the system) each time a tape gets an error.
When the same asset is stored several times in the tape, the defrag process will skip all the logically deleted files for the same asset to avoid the exception error during re-archiving.
Note: The Automatic defrag would only execute defrag on tapes physically presented in the drive during Maintenance Time. Offline tapes would be excluded from defrag.
