What is Daylight saving time?
Daylight saving time (DST) is the convention of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more Daylight and mornings have less. Typically, clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and backwards in autumn, returning to Standard time (also known as Solar time).
March (Approximately) - Northern Hemisphere switches to Daylight Saving Time. (time is generally shifted 1 hour forward).
Southern Hemisphere switches from Daylight Saving Time. (time is generally shifted 1 hr backwards).
October (Approximately) - Northern Hemisphere switches from Daylight Saving Time. (time is generally shifted 1 hr backwards).
Southern Hemisphere switches to Daylight Saving Time. (time is generally shifted 1 hour forward).
Please note that regarding the complex rules of Daylight Saving, ETERE relies on the Windows localization library to choose the correct date and time.
Switch to daylight saving/solar time in Etere.
When switching to summertime, the Etere Flooder behaves in this way (Etere Flooder and Timecode board like Adrienne):
•The Etere Flooder stops working from 60 minutes before to 60 minutes after the switch from summertime to wintertime so as not to cause errors in the controller.
NB: The 120-minute slot is built to avoid those problems that can occur in some installations. It could happen that the Reference timecode does not jump at the correct frame; if this happens, the system time may jump up and down, causing serious problems (the Time Flooder may consider this change as due to a defective timecode generator and disconnect from the reference timecode); another case could be a manual timecode generator set for summertime.
•After 60 minutes from the switch, the Etere Flooder restarts and compares the Timecode board time with the PC time. If the values differ slightly, the Etere Flooder slowly corrects the PC time, as usual. If the PC time varies, the Etere Flooder sets it immediately to the Timecode board time.
•Etere Receivers regularly work when the time is synchronized with the Etere Flooder. If they are not aligned now, they will be after receiving UDP packets. The more packets they receive, the faster they are aligned.
Attention!
Etere advises not to carry out the change of Daylight saving/solar time outside the typical/classic time (with a tolerance of 60 minutes more and 60 mins less compared to that time). In the case where there are doubts about the period in which the Adrienne board carries out the update of the time, one advises to disconnect beforehand the cable which carries the synchronized time to the board itself and to reattach it only when one is sure that the time of the Adrienne board is updated to the correct new time.
