59.3.9.40 EDL Partial Retrieve

Action Description
The "EDL Partial Retrieve" action allows the creation of a separate file for all suitable segments contained in a particular cue sheet by performing the following operations:

1 The "Partial Retrieve" default T-workflow will be attached -and launched- to all "visible segments" in the EDL which have not been yet partially retrieved (i.e. which don't have a linked file).

NB: Refer to the Content Mover chapter for information on T-workflows based on "partial retrieve" actions.

NB: Please refer to the EDL management chapter for information on visible segments and EDL management.

2. A separate file will be generated for each segment, featuring only the video portion related to the partially retrieved segment.

3 Every partially retrieved file will be held into a new asset created with the following data:

Code - Created as [AssetCode]_PR[n]  ; indicating the code of the original asset (AssetCode), the partial retrieve origin (_PR) and the sequential creation number of the part (n).

Description - The segment's description is taken (if available). Otherwise, it's used the asset's description.

Type - Depends on the action's configured type. By default, it's "PRT".

Post-T-workflow - Depends on the action's configured T-workflow.

File - File named as the code with an extension based on the action's configured target codec.

For instance, in case the code of the original asset is "MoneyShow-28072013", the code (and filenames) of created assets will be sequentially generated as: "MoneyShow-28072013_PR1", "MoneyShow-28072013_PR2" and so on.

4. The "Media Library > Media" section of the original asset provides a variety of contextual functions for the management of EDL; making right-clicking on a segment will allow you to perform the following operations:

▪Workflow info > View workflow: Consult the status of the "partial retrieve" T-workflow launched for the segment.

Linked asset form: Open the asset that holds the partially retrieved segment

An "EDL Partial Retrieve" action is helpful in quickly and automatically retrieving all visible segments contained in a certain EDL without manually launching the "partial retrieve" function for every segment on the EDL.

Action Parameters
The fields to be compiled when creating the action are detailed below:

Parameters
Name - Insert a short descriptive name for the action (e.g. "EDL Partial Retrieve - N.9").

EDL version - Select the version of the EDL for which the partial retrieve will be performed.

Depending on the result of the performed operation, the following outputs will be managed for the action:

Done (The "partial restore" wf has been launched for all segments in the EDL)

Warning (The "partial restore" wf has been launched only for some segments in the EDL)

Error (The "partial restore" wf has not been launched for any segment in the EDL)

How to use it
Once created, this action must be included in a T-workflow (e.g., creating a new file based on the instructions in a certain EDL) under the T-workflow designer and then attached and launched for the desired asset(s).
