Maintenance Time

70.3.5.4 Automatic Tape Errors Recovery

During the Maintenance Time, the "Automatic Tape Errors Recovery" task allows recovery of all errors (e.g., CRC) encountered on faulty tapes.

Recovery operations are scheduled by HSM Headquarters to be performed by HSM Data Pump during the Maintenance Time. When the HSM Data Pump finishes recovering a tape, it returns "available" for use, for instance, to be assigned to queued operations missing tapes (from its same media pool).

Faulty tapes
▪ If HSM Data Pump finds an error when writing a tape, it is flagged as "with errors" to avoid its use until a recovery is made. When a tape is flagged as "with errors", all its queued operations (e.g. archive) are reassigned to another tape of the media pool (if available).
▪Faulty tapes include an error code (e.g. 23=CRC error).
▪In versions before Etere 24.1.1, faulty tapes were flagged as "read-only"; therefore, they are not included in the "automatic tape errors recovery". To recover "read-only" tapes, you must use the Maintenance Mode of the HSM Data Pump.
