This function allows to quickly explode events into a number of parts given by the user which can eventually differ from the scheduled duration. For instance, if an event currently counts with 4 exploded parts, this function will permit to create another 2 segments with a custom duration.
The user interface of this tool is mainly divided into three sections for allowing an easiest understanding and management:
Pre-explosion (current program status)
The program is currently divided into: The number of parts into which the event is currently exploded.
The current duration is: The total duration of the event, that is, the sum of all the exploded parts.
Explosion parameters
No. of parts in which to divide the program: Depending on whether the event is already exploded or not, it allows to:
• Unexploded event: Specify the number of parts into which divide the event.
• Exploded event: Specify the number of parts to be added to the existing ones.
Single part duration: Depending on whether the event is already exploded or not, the duration of each exploded part will be automatically calculated as follows:
• Unexploded event: The division of the event scheduled duration by the number of parts to be exploded. For instance, if the event last 60 minutes and will be divided into 4 parts, each exploded part will last 15 minutes (60/4).
• Exploded event: The average duration of existing segments. For instance, if the event is exploded in 3 parts of 15, 20 and 25 minutes, each added part will last 20 minutes ([15+20+25]/3).
Moreover, pressing the [set duration] button will allow manually setting a custom duration.
Post-explosion (expected program status)
The program will be divided into: The expected number of parts of the event following to the custom explosion.
The final duration will be: The expected duration of the event following to the custom explosion. This duration is calculated by summing the durations of all the expected parts.
Once the explosion parameters have been set, press the [Ok] button to perform the explosion; depending on whether the event was already exploded or not, one the following scenarios will occur:
Exploding an unexploded event into custom parts
In case of using this function against an unexploded event (i.e. featured in the schedule by a single part), this tool will allow to explode it into a custom number of parts of a certain duration. For instance, if the event was unexploded, it will be exploded into 2 parts.
The duration of segments will be calculated as the division of the event scheduled duration by the number of parts to be exploded, being however possible to set a custom value for this duration just by pressing the [set duration] button.
Exploding an exploded event into custom parts
In case of using this function against an already exploded event (i.e. featured in the schedule by two or more parts), this tool will allow to add more parts to the ones already present. For instance, if the event was exploded in 4 parts, 2 more parts will be added to it.
The duration of segments will be calculated as the average duration of existing segments, being however possible to set a custom value for this duration just by pressing the [set duration] button.
Here is an example to insert a short announcement between the playout of a running program:
1. Select the running program and explode into custom parts.
2. Set the program into intended number of parts that contain same duration.
3. Insert the short announcement into program.
4. Edit the first part of program by setting the Timecode OUT field greater than the current timecode. E.g. if the program has been played to 15 minutes, set the Timecode Out as “00:16:00.00”.
5. Edit the second part of program by setting the Timecode IN adding one frame greater than the previous Timecode OUT, e.g. set the second part Timecode OUT as “00:16:00.01”.
