Etere MOS Gateway

74.1 Glossary

What elements make up a schedule:

Gateway:  A gate or connection point that links two or more systems/networks with different communication protocols.

RO port: RO is the acronym for Running Order. RO Port allows one to receive RunDowns (or Running Orders) in Etere from an NRCS.

MOS:  MOS stands for Media Object Server Communications Protocol. It is a protocol created for communication between NRCS (Newsroom Computer Systems) and Media Object Servers (MOS), like Video servers, Audio Servers, Still Stores, Character Generators, etc.

MOS ID: MOS ID is Etere/NRCS system's univocal identifier; defined in the mosID field both in the NRCS and in Etere MOS Gateway and MOS_RTA.TRL file.

MOM Port: MOM is the acronym for Media Object Metadata. MOM Port allows one to acquire assets from the video server and send them to the NRCS.

NRCS: NRCS is the acronym for Newsroom Computer System. The Newsroom Computer System is responsible for creating, modifying, and cancellation of editorial information, including playlists (RunDowns).

NcsID: NcsID corresponds to the NRCS server name and IP address and identifies the Newsroom Computer System).

Placeholder: Also known as, Object, is an asset created by the NRCS system in the Etere database; the placeholder will not be yet linked to any media file and will contain some essential information such as the clip ID and Code as well as an eventual tapeless sender intended to delivery the asset through the Etere's web service.

RunDown or Running Order: The RunDown (or Running Order) is the playlist created with the NRCS; it's the essential organisation of each news broadcast. A rundown is a grid listing scripts, video, audio, character generator data, teleprompter control, director notations, camera operator cues, and timing estimates for each broadcast section.

Story: Container used by the NRCS to group several objects.

NB: More detailed information on terms used throughout Etere can be found in the global Glossary chapter.
